HAMfest Shelby, NC

A couple of weeks ago we drove down to NC for the HAMfest. I am not the HAM in the family but I had a good time anyway. I got to take some cool photos of old radios and cute little switches/parts. I also got to spend some much needed time with a great friend! There was talking, eating, talking, knitting, talking, picture taking, talking, exchange of fiber gifts, talking, talking, and more talking! It was wonderful!

The first part of the morning I hung out at the fest.

Then I met up with my friend and we toured lovely NC. She gave me some lovely banana yarn from the Blonde Chicken Boutique!

We went to Mary Jo's Cloth Store. Amazing! I found some wonderful patterns and some gorgeous silk! (no pic) We moved on to her LYS, Close Knit. It was a great store in a very nice house. I enjoyed sitting on the sofa and watching Chris knit with US size 50 needles!

The owner Sheri has wonderful energy and the atmosphere there was just so much fun. I got some lovely ribbon along with a few other things.

My friend has art yarn for sale there and online. She also teaches spinning classes. If you live in the Gastonia/Charlotte area you should check this place out.

There is a lot next to Close Knit that has a massive paint can. It used to be part of a sign. It beckoned me to get closer to it.

Last but not least we stopped at Amelie's French Bakery. So yummy!

Log Cabin Washcloth

I did this last month. I just took a break from large knitting projects. I used The Purl Bee project page. As for yarn I used a sample from the Phat box and some kitchen cotton from my stash. It was a fun and easy project.

Silky Madness

You know you have a fiber addiction when:

Silk

Green=Milk, Multi color=Silk, and Pinks=Bamboo.

I am in the middle of spinning up the bamboo. However, I am waiting for my ankle to get better before I can continue spinning my silks. I did not dye these myself. I purchased them from extremespinning on etsy.

Twisted

By twisted I don't mean yarn! I was walking the dogs today when I stepped into a hole and "pop!" there goes my ankle. I fell pretty hard too. Now I am laid up in bed unable to do any spinning on my wheel. :( Before I tumbled down the hill I was admiring the local lotus blooms.



I am going to take this misfortune and knit. I think I can get a lot done in the next day or so.

Big Blue

I finished a large skein of yarn over the weekend. This is the best one yet! I again used a mix of fibers for the blue single. It consists of bamboo, silk, milk, and tencel. The gray single is (AGAIN) bamboo. This was spun on the wheel. It is 2ply, 256 yds, 4.5 oz, and about 12wpi (thick, thin). I haven't mastered plying but this one is at least more balanced than the other yarn I have made on my wheel. Which only means I am getting better! :)
